Dulce de Leche Donuts with Almond Slivers Recipe

These dulce de leche donuts are a sweet and nutty treat that is ideal for breakfast or dessert. The dulce de leche dough has a rich, caramel flavor that pairs perfectly with the toasted almond slivers on top. These donuts are simple to make and will surely impress.

Instructions

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, dulce de leche, egg, and melted butter.
  • Stir together the wet and dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes, wrapped in plastic wrap.
  • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large, deep pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  • Make doughnuts with a doughnut cutter or two round cutters of varying sizes.
  • Fry the doughnuts in the hot oil, turning occasionally, for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • With a slotted spoon, remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack to cool.
  • Top the doughnuts with the toasted almond slivers.
  • Warm or at room temperature, serve the dulce de leche donuts.
