Powdered Sugar Doughnuts Recipe

These homemade powdered sugar doughnuts are a traditional breakfast or dessert treat. They're soft and fluffy, and dusted with sugar.

Ingredients

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Instructions

  • Cream the butter and granulated sugar together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  • One at a time, beat in the eggs, making sure each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  • Combine the baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg and salt in a mixing bowl.
  • Alternately add the flour and milk to the bowl, beginning and ending with the flour and mixing well after each addition.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  • In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
  • Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/2 inch (1 cm) on a lightly floured surface.
  • Cut out doughnut shapes with a doughnut cutter or two different-sized biscuit cutters.
  • Fry the doughnuts in batches in the hot oil until golden brown on both sides.
  • Drain the fried doughnuts on a plate lined with paper towels.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar and roll each doughnut in it until coated.
  • Warm or at room temperature, serve the doughnuts.
